Click to report rating    5/27/16   5     5     5     5   We recently took, first our cat and then later our dog, to Landsdowne, as it is near our home and our previous vet had retired. The vet and staff were all kind, knowledgeable and conscientious and the clinic had a very pleasant atmosphere. They were also laid-back and not pushy. *****Do note that the vast majority of the bad reviews were under the previous ownership. Since we had a good experience, I thought it was worthwhile to share it too! RID: 60711

2/13/14   1     1     1     1   Wrong diagnosis, no follow up on blood work, dog was dead in 3 weeks after it had to be taken to see another vet. RID: 49802
Click to report rating    7/2/13   2     3     4     4   I went there because they were cheaper than the rest. BAD BAD service. RID: 43437
Click to report rating    9/14/12   1     1     1     1   Worst vet I have ever been to. I had a 7 year old Pomeranian with an ear infection for 5 years. The doctor kept giving ear drops for no reason. The actual war infection was a sign for kidney failure. He died on me after being diagnosed wrong for so many years. Dr. Z IS A MONEY HUNGRY, GREEDY, UNCARING VET WHO DOESN'T EVEN OWN AN ANIMAL. HE HAS NO PASSION FOR WHAT HE DOES, HE SIMPLY SEES IT AS MONEY COMING IN AN DOES NOT CARE ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR ANIMAL! They don't even write exactly why you go into the practice. Their health records of your animals are missing a lot of Information. MAKE SURE YOU ASK TO SEE YOUR RECORDS!! I GOT HUNG UP ON IN MY FACE, WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER RECIEVED IN MY LIFE! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A PRACTICE THAT COULD CARE LESS FOR YOUR ANIMALS WELL BEING! RID: 37196
6/22/12   2     3     3     2   Six years ago we took in a stray cat and took her for an assessment. She was described as fine. Later we discovered she had FIV. Decided to keep her as she was very friendly but had issue with her ears. Dr Z tried to clean with Q tip - and somehow managed to rupture her ear drum, causing severe balance problems. Had to rush the cat to emergency (where we discovered the FIV) and ended up spending $3000. Turns out her ear issue was an infection that has been successfully treated with antibiotics. Now I like Dr Z as a person, but confusing a medical issue with dirt hardly inspires confidence. We go elsewhere - and our cat is well looked after, still healthy, and has had no further ear problems. Click to report rating    5/17/12   2     2     3     1   I had been taking my pets to Landsdowne for over ten years because it is located blocks from my house. I have recently decided that the location does not make up enough for a lack of communication, sensitivity and an inability to keep charts up to date. Dr. Z never wrote down my cat's weight ( I was there when she was weighed but couldn't remember) when I called to figure out how many pounds she had lost due to liver disease (which was diagnosed elsewhere). They forgot to remove her tumor when her teeth were being pulled and could not tell me if her stitches were dissolvable. The only bright spot is one of the nurses/technicians who works in the mornings and is a lovely, caring professional. I will not be back.  RID: 34295
Click to report rating    4/29/12   1     3     1     3   WILL NOT GO BACK.... originally went there for price (compared to other vets in area), however terrible service far outweighs benefits of costs. Last time I went, Dr.Z gave my dog Vaccinations I specifically told him not to, and when cutting his nails, he cut into the blood vessel on the majority of my dogs nails, causing him undue pain. Click to report rating    12/14/11   1     1     3     2   Possibly the worst vet in the city. He does an external exam for problems based on symptoms that clearly indicate internal issues, and then declares there's no problem. Shock of shocks, the problems continue to get worse until you finally go to another vet and based on symptoms they do a proper exam, and run the appropriate tests and diagnose your pet with issues. I have now spoken to multiple people with cats and dogs who have had serious problems with this vet, all of similar nature, and in almost all cases so serious they nearly caused death in the animal (or in one case did.) If you're looking for an inexpensive local vet, go to Glebe, otherwise go to Alta Vista or Ottawa Veterinary Hospital, or some other reputable vet. RID: 29862
Click to report rating    11/15/11   4     4     5     4   We have rats, and were happy to find an affordable place in Ottawa to get them treated. We are usually early and don't have to wait long to get in. Its a small practice, with only two vets and two exam rooms, but everyone is extremely nice. The vet we see is very matter of fact, which is both refreshing and a bit off putting. He doesn't try to convince you of which route to take, he just lays out the options with the pros and cons and lets you decide. He tends to favour more conservative approach to medicine for our rats, whereas some people prefer to treat their respiratory infections aggressively with strong medicines. That said, he has always found a solution for each of our sick rats, and does so at an excellent price. I also appreciate that we don't have to bring the same rat in multiple times, as he will often refill or change the prescription on the phone as long as he has already seen the rat for that issue. Click to report rating    10/19/11   1     3     3     1   We privately adopted a Dane and realized fairly quickly that he had a number of health issues (not uncommon). Chronically dry nose, Horner's syndrome, and downright unhealthy smelling bowel movements being the most obvious. We took him to Lansdowne for a full physical and they gave him a clean bill of health. They made mention of optional medication for the Horner's (which is fairly standard). We were still uneasy with the clean bill of health, as we knew there was something not right with the dog. But we trusted the doctor. Within 2 months we were at the emergency vet's as the dog had become feverish, anxious and disoriented. The vet there discovered that amongst other things, he was suffering from pneumonia and in his opinion it had progressed so far that he estimated a respiratory infection at at least 6 months. Our Dane didn't survive the night. RID: 28426
Click to report rating    6/24/11   5     4     5     5   We've had Dr Z take care of our pets for 15+ years. He's a caring vet with years of experience, and doesn't try to push unneeded, expensive tests or procedures - just the opposite, he recommends methods such as medicine, rest, etc, before surgery. Dr. Gallagher is relatively new to the clinic, but has the same great attitude towards taking care of our pets. Staff is friendly and caring. Highly recommend the team at Lansdowne Animal Hospital.
