Click to report rating    11/19/19   1     1     1     1   They killed my dog. I took my 9 year old Australian Shepherd to see Dr. Catherine Daley in internal medicine after being referred by my vet for breathing problems. We agreed on a CT scan, rhinoscopy, and potentially a biopsy if she found suspicious lesions in his nasal passages. She did the scope, there were irritated areas, but she was pretty certain it was rhinitis and no cancer was present. She continued with the biopsies anyway. When my dog was waking up in recovery the spots that she biopsied began to bleed again. They put him back under, his heart stopped and they were unable to get him back. The biopsies later confirmed no cancer. I think that they overdosed him on propofol. They did not offer an autopsy and we were too shocked/upset to think about it. I believe she only did the biopsy to increase our vet bill as it requires an overnight stay. We were not allowed access to our dog's chart or her notes - it took several weeks to get the full picture of what happened. RID: 68747
Click to report rating    8/9/11   5     5     5     4   My cat was very sick late on a Saturday, and MVES was the facility recommended by my regular vet. I was taken aback initially at the prices for the services, but I couldn't bear to not do the surgery that she needed. Dr. Ballard did an excellent job diagnosing her condition, which was both pretty rare for a cat and also hadn't been diagnosed by our vet. Dr. Neat did an excellent job with the surgery, and especially with keeping me informed about her condition and what he was doing to help her. They also did (I feel) an excellent job controlling the cost of her care as much as possible. Excellent facility and doctors. Despite the higher cost than our normal vet, which can be easily explained by their 24/7 availability and their specialties, I highly recommend MVES. They were available when I needed them and there is no question that they saved my cat's life. RID: 26815
Click to report rating    7/21/11   1     1     1     1   I have to rate this practice low due to the fact that we were given false hope, delayed efforts, and a tragic outcome that was a result of their tampering with medications that were previously working. I wanted a realistic approach to treatment, and truth in prognosis. If you want false hope, you can get it here. RID: 26365
Click to report rating    6/23/11   5     5     5     5   I had my little guy there for an emergency. They saved his life. They were very responsible and professional. They treated my dog with love and kindness. Everyone there was very professional to me. I am upset with people ****ing about their vet bill. If you have a pet, it is the risk you take with owning a pet. You either pay the money or put the animal down. The choice is yours. The vets here are highly trained vet. medical and surgical specialist. They have a lot of overhead to pay for including, but not limited to the building mortgage, the utilities, property taxes, insurance, supplies, equipment, and staff. This isn't even going in to the benefits they are required to provide for their staff. And lets not forget the college degree they are still paying for and for which they sacrificed time and sweat to learn how to care for your sick and dying animal. So quit ****ing about how much it cost to save your animal. Don't get a pet if you don't want to pay for it and take care of it. RID: 25769
Click to report rating    10/18/10   5     5     5     5   I recently lost my girl after nearly thirteen years of life. Dr. Applewhite is the reason she didn't leave us at the age of nine and a half. She literally couldn't stand due to a problem in her spine. He operated on her successfully and kept me apprised of her condition frequently. He even came in on a Saturday morning before his son's team played a game that day just so that I could pick-up my girl as soon as possible. I have never regretted the decision or the cost. Though she developed heart problems later, she was able to fetch, play in the pool, and be mischievious until just a few days before it was time to say good-bye. The office staff was also very responsive and professional. RID: 20369
Click to report rating    7/7/10   5     5     5     5   In response to an earlier comment about preying on people who will do anything: I know for a fact that these doctors review any potentially poor outcomes as a result of treatment or surgery. They do the best they can and if your pet was so critical it was probably a situation where it's "damned if you do, damned if you don't." Your pet was in poor health and you took them there to do something...they did their best. As a technician from the Louisiville area, having worked at a very large specialty/critical facility we do the very best we can. But no, the outcome isn't always what we hope for or anticipate. Click to report rating    4/16/10   5     5     4     3   I found this group to be caring, efficient and effective, although they are very expensive. My dog had extensive emergency surgery, and required a three-day post-operative stay in their intensive care unit. She is still recovering at home, but appears to be doing well. The staff (the vets and vet techs) were caring and thorough in explaining the issues, the care choices and the prognosis. I did feel they worked very hard to ensure my dog had the best chance of surviving this crisis. Plus, my regular vet recommended them highly, although he warned me they would be expensive...and he was correct. RID: 17542
Click to report rating    4/9/10   1     3     3     1   I agree with an earlier comment about this place only being interested in your money. Twice I have had a dog that was in grave condition and both times my dog died days after having of the surgery. Both bills were in the thousands. As vets they should be concerned with the quality of an animals life and not just their ability to prey on people who love their animals so much that they will do whatever someone tells them to do even if it is not in the best interest of the dog. I would be curious to know how many pets have died within days of having surgery at this hospital. Pets that would have been better served if someone there were honest enough to explain to a animals owner the survival chances and what is the humane thing to do when a pet is gravely ill. RID: 17451
Click to report rating    12/22/09   5     5     5     5   The staff and doctors at MVES are wonderful. My dog presented with a botched surgery at another referral hospital in town. The emergency and specialty services were so professional and able to put my anxiety at ease. Due to their wonderful care my muffin is still with me. RID: 15858
Click to report rating    4/24/09   5     5     5     5   I had a wonderful experience at Metropolitian Vet Specialists. They treated my baby with the up most care and consideration. The staff went above and beyond in making me feel comfortable. If I had a question a staff member could not answer they would find a doctor who could answer it for me. Most importantly my pet felt very comfortable at their facility. When we came back for a recheck he came through the door with his tail wagging and was happily greeted by the staff who still remembered his name and mine. Yes Metropolitian Vet Services is expensive, but for the care and expertise that my little buddy received it was well worth the cost. I highly recommend this hospital to animal parents who are in need. RID: 12557

Click to report rating    11/29/07   1     2     2     1   This is the correct name for the business listed above as "Metropolitan Veterinary Clinic." I am reposting my comments because my attempts to correct the name were unsuccessful. The comments below express my opinions about this facility after a recent experience costing over $3,000. This is basically a surgery mill which charges very high fees and provides little or no post operative care. Once they have your money, they are basically through with you. They have people who have pets that require surgery not typically performed by most local vets/veterinary hospitals over the proverbial barrel because they are the only vet specialty facility in this particular geographical area. Avoid this place at all cost. Try to find someplace in Indiana, Ohio, or anywhere else who cares about your pet and not just your money. In my opinion, if your vet recommends this place (like mine did), do some research and find someplace else. I believed my vet and am now very, very sorry that I did. RID: 6514
