I went to Little Paws Vet Clinic to see Dr. Adam Avitan because I heard from many local Steveston pet owners how amazing he is. My visit was a very positive experience. Dr. Avitan took his time examining my little Otis, his observations and recommendations were not only missed by my other vet but are much needed and without this diagnosis Otis would have irreversible damage to his back knee joints. The cost for exam and supplements was much less than expected. Also in the past Dr. Martinez fit me in on an emergency basis when Otis hurt his paw and the cost was not any higher than the vet I was using at the time. I highly recommend Dr. Avitan, although I have only seen two vets in the last 10 years I have never felt more comfortable and confident as with Dr. Avitan.

Dr Martinez has been Vet to my two girls, Zoey (Chi 4.5yrs) and Shiloh (Jack/Chi X 2 yrs) from the moment I adopted them. He and his staff, especially Chad, are excellent with my pups. The clinic is welcoming, friendly, and very convenient location, not to mention their hours and days of the week they are available! My girls have wonderful care!

I agree with other comments here that this vet uses scare tactics to lure you out of your money. Better as a salesman than a doctor

I have never been talked down to in such a condescending manner as I was by the vet here. I had some questions and concerns with his treatment suggestions and wanted to discuss them and he was rude, confrontational and condescending. If you want someone to take your advice seriously, being a jerk is NOT the way to do it. He also tried to scare me into giving my 10 year old dog an unnecessary surgery for what he diagnosed as a tumour but has since (by two separate vets) been diagnosed as an infected growth that can be treated with antibiotics.

My rat was bleeding from the mouth on a Sunday morning, and it's hard to find an exotics vet open on Sunday, much less one that isn't already booked. Dr. Martinez squeezed me in even though they were already booked. He did his best to avoid necessitating surgery to save me money and risk to my rat, but ultimately, surgery became necessary. Booking was incredibly swift - the very next day. Ultimately, my rat was found to have an advanced tumor and he passed away during surgery, but I have complete faith that everything was done to save him. The vet deeply discounted their services after my rat passed away, which is more than I can say for certain other vets. Little Paws has given the fastest emergency care I've ever seen from an exotics vet - so many of them make you wait weeks! Little Paws is more expensive than most, but you pay for what you get. If it's an exotics emergency, Little Paws is absolutely your best bet within Greater Vancouver.

Dr. Martinez did an amazing job when he performed an ovariectomy to our beloved Boston terrier puppy. We waited until she was fully matured and spayed her ( removed ovaries) after her second heat. Genuine care, personal approach, professionalism, - we received it all at this clinic. Also, thank you, Chad, for your understanding and kind words. We knew exactly when the surgery began, got a call from Dr. Martinez when it was over, and another call when we could pick her up. She was at the clinic for about 3-4 hours only overall. She recovered fast and was back to her favourite dog parks in a week. We are lucky to have a doctor in the neighbourhood who makes such a difference.

Dr. Martinez is the most skilled, knowledgeable and up-to-date vet in Richmond for rabbits and one of the top rabbit vets in the Lower Mainland. I've never known him to put billing before the bunnies. The staff has always been great as well.

RUNAWAY! MONEY GRABBER! Dr. Martinez just cares about the money! He will get your dog do expensive blood test and then do another test to squeeze every single penny out of your credit card! Takes advantage of new dog owners! Brought Bailey (a Bichon mix) in as he started to get these pimples on his back. Dr. Martinez said we better do a blood test. Then, after the blood test, the results came back normal. Dr. Martinez without diagnosing the right problem. Put our dog on another test, he said our dog is very likely to have “cushioning disease” that we were freaking out. He told us that we must put our dog on monthly revolution, and monthly deworming product and few expensive supplements(secures profit). We went through many tests, after spending about $800.00 the problem was still NOT SOLVED. We finally switched to another vet that told us just bathe our dog with a hypoallergenic shampoo and wait an see, the problem was solved within 6 weeks!Shampoo was just $13! Dr. M= Dr.MONEY!RUN!

Our rabbit family has been seeing Dr. Martinez for two years now. He has performed two spays, one neuter, taken care of an abscess, and successfully treated a very advanced case of E.Coniculi in a foster bunny. After her foster took her to see two other vets with marginal results, I brought my most recent adoption to see Dr. M today for a third opinion re: a serious heart condition. Not only did he explain the condition and the options thoroughly, he answered all of our questions, and saved us approximately $800. We have found him to be extremely knowledgeable, passionate and caring, helpful and VERY accommodating. He has stayed late for me to pick up my pets after work, and returned my emergency messages after hours promptly. We also like his friendly, polite and ALWAYS helpful vet assistant Chad very much. The clinic is bright, homey and SPOTLESS. He is not the cheapest game in town, but his knowledge and experience are worth EVERY penny. Dr. Martinez, you can NEVER, EVER retire!!

Dr. Martinez has been a positive influence on our community and has been involved in many causes and is quite well respected in my opinion. I believe he is very well qualified and is likeable with a good bedside manner. To the few here that criticized his staff I would like to say that personalities are various and isn't it impossible to make the same impression on everybody in this world? I have a GP who is rated the very best in Richmond but one of his staff, of many years, has a well deserved reputation of being short, rude, condescending etc.etc. but this is the price one has to pay to see the best doc in town. Many times, one must realize, desk staff are asked to run "interference" to filter out the noise. I am wondering if there is someone down thread with a personal vendetta against Dr Martinez? There is always one in the crowd. Expensive? They ALL are, get insurance for your pet or end up in the poor house. Pet insurance should be mandatory as it is with humans here in BC

Got the dog's teeth cleaned here. I was extremely skeptical to begin with; the examination was "free" and of course the end result was the dog needed dental surgery. I won't deny the dog felt much better after but the method they used to draw people in and then charge high prices is shady. Staff dressed somewhat unprofessionally and I found the vet hard to understand. He cared little for explaining anything we had to ask about besides the dog's teeth condition, even on the follow up visit when the dog got the procedure done he did not address questions we had very thoroughly or outright bypassed them. He'd got his money for the dental, I guess any questions we had on other problems weren't his concern.

Rip Off ..markup of surgical procedure $300 more than other vets in Richmond. High surgical cost doesn't justify his qualifications / credentials . High prices for medication. Rude receptionist. Been going here for years....finally switched to another vet. My pets are healthy and happy now. My wallet no longer burning a hole.

We liked dr Martinez and staff, but now it is clear that had we not switched clinics, our cat would have died due to their following incompetencies:
# Pet files are badly maintained - Our cat was put on a special diet for 2 months. There was no improvement, but it was not tracked, and so did not bother the doctor.
# Did not recommend IV fluid therapy or exam for dehydration - This almost killed our cat. In another clinic he was immediately put under IV for a day.
# It is expensive - Dental was quoted to be $700, we got it done in a great Vancouver clinic (Oak Animal Hospital) for $400. Ultrasound was quoted $700, we got it done for $300. Also, LP does not have in-house blood testing capabilities, so it takes longer and costs more.
# Unprofessionalism - Our cat had to get a blood exam to make sure he is safe to get anesthetic; LP did not seem to have any idea where his blood levels had to be for the dental procedure to be safe. And instructions come on scribbly notes, not on printou

Dr Martinez is a great vet. He is thoughtful and very honest. For rabbits, there is no other vet in Richmond I would go to. He takes a holistic approach to my cats' allergies and provides a full service experience. He is on the higher end cost wise, but is reasonable when it comes to follow ups and does the best he can to work with your circumstances. Just be up front with him and his staff.

When my little cat got injured from an accident, I didn't know what to do except bring him to the nearest Vet that was opened on a Sunday. Little Paws came up and I did not hesitate to get there. At first the front desk girl may seem rude but she is actually very nice and came back multiple times to check up on my cat in the examination room. Dr. Martinez too was a pleasant experience. He's very nice and was very gentle with my little guy. But what they did for me though made my first time experience all the better. I was short on money and the surgery plus medication costed around 700. I only had 400 on me but that didn't change Dr. Martinez mind. He took the 400 and even stayed in an extra hour just to give me cat the surgery he needs! Talk about caring, Dr. Martinez really does care for animals and his customers as well. I really recommend this place to anyone with a pet, the staff there really does care for your pets! The only concern I have is that it is a bit expensive.

Bad vet, rude staff, expensive meds. and wasted my money here. They charge twice as much as other vets. At the end, Dr Martinez misdiagnosed my dog //He also recommended that MRI, xrays, blood work, etc ...be done. Not cheap! So, I went to 2nd vet for 2nd opinion. Turns out my dog had arthritis, as determined by Dr. Pal at Companion Animal Hospital . (Went to Dr. Pal for 2nd opinion.) My dog was given option of anti inflammatory pills or steroid injection. He did NOT recommend xrays,MRI,or blood work, just yet, unlike Dr. Martinez. Fortunately, medincines worked!!! and I was saved the cost of xrays, and other costly tests. So, forget Dr. Martinez, and his RUDE staff, esp. the receptionist...she sucks...and needs her attitude checked at the door.

I brought my new kitten here for the initial checkup, they found nothing wrong with him except for some dirty ears but the bill eventually racked up to $200 with 1 vaccination, worm check & medication, toothpaste, and flea medication (Which we did NOT request and the previous owner already have used). Just the initial checkup which took about 5 minutes as he found nothing wrong with me kitty costed $55! The front desk lady's attitude seemed rude and rushy although she did not say anything rude. Dr. Martinez however was very nice and gentle. The place was clean and we were able to book this appointment for the next day. Overall, this place is good BUT very expensive.

GO ELSEWHERE, Dr. Martinez should be a car salesman instead that plays on your emotions to gouge every single penny out of you, he cares $ first before your pet with a cunning smile, He gives you options and pulls on every single one of them knowing you love your pet so much to gouge on profits. He sells and tries to make you feel your pet has issues to pay for blood test, urine test, fecal test and then pushes on Science DIET crap for a lifetime and medicines that are not needed to ensure you become a life time customer which allows him to gouge profits out of you. GO ELSEWHERE, he lies about giving discounts, when your hooked he racks up the final bill that ends up being double and tells you he gave you a discount already, and then sells you more on buying crap profits filled with chemicals like corn, wheat, soy, probiotics not suitable for your pet sprayed with fat & is IRRESPONSIBLE as he just afraid getting sued, so give you options, when**** happens, he says YOU made the choice!

I have several pets, a cat, a dog and some small animals. Dr. Martinez has been a great veterinarian for all of them. He is kind, knowledgeable and his place is nice and clean. The ambiance is peaceful and with good energy. My fractious cat relaxes when he enters this space. Dr. Martinez helper was kind and knows lots about animals.

The staff at this clinic are rude and awful. I felt rushed and that my pets health didn't matter at all. I came back with my dog after I had previously been and paid an expensive bill because he was not getting better. Dr. Martinez dismissed my concerns and just gave me more medicine without even talking to me about what was wrong. That will be my last expensive bill at this clinic. Not to mention, the staff were beyond RUDE!

My rabbit had a jaw abcess and messed up teeth. Dr. Martinez removed the lower incisors, removed the abcess and filed the back teeth. He has a special animal dental drill. Including the anesthesia, pain meds, antibiotics, probiotics, and recovery food, it cost about $800. My rabbit made a full recovery. The clinic is clean, it's open on weekends, and Dr. Martinez obviously knows what he is doing. I now take my rabbit in about once a month to get his teeth trimmed with the animal dental drill for about $20. I think of it as his monthly hare trim or peticure.

Dr. Martinez and his staff are very well organized. The vet himself is knowledgeable in holistic treatments and specialize in rabbits. I brought mine in for a neuter and he was able to answer all related questions, provided more than adequate explanations of the procedures and even provided post-surgery check ups. The only thing is that the price is a bit high for neutering and pain meds *$180+) but the man has a good soul for offering discounted prices to the Rabbit Rescue Organizations. My bun healed clean and ate well post surgery. I'm grateful of the care in monitoring him pre and post op. (Clean and Sanitary Facility as well).

Excellent staff - she explains carefully and clearly and make reminder call for pre-surgery preparation and followup call after surgery. Dr. Martinez is nice and kind. He talked to us over the phone for our concerns when we called after the surgery and explained to us clearly and patiently when we visited the clinic. Our whole experience with the clinic is really good.

As a first time pet-owner I was very nervous bringing my bunny in for surgery. Dr. Martinez was wonderful. I felt like he truly cared about the well-being of my bun. The first thing he did was ask me loads of questions about my bunny's diet, habitat, socializing etc. and give me tips and ideas for improvement. He went over every part of the procedure before he started and explained it all to me, step by step. He told me about the rabbits he has lost during/after surgery (not very many)and exactly what went wrong in each case and I didn't even ask him about it, he just told me. He was just so incredibly thorough, caring and reassuring. He also had the best prices of all the vets that I called (and I found so many rave reviews of him too).

Dr. Martinez is a fantastic bunny vet. He provides very good care for very reasonable prices. I've taken multiple rabbits, my own and fosters, here and am always satisfied with the visits. Little Paws is easy to get to, has free parking around (may be harder to find parking in Steveston on a weekend, though), and is clean and welcoming inside. Ask him to show you where to get grass for your bunny!

Fantastic vet. Dr. Martinez saves my bunny's life. His prices are reasonable and yet he delivers the best care that I have ever had from any other vets. He takes background info about my bunny before he starts his healing and it is very thoughtful. Very caring and responsible at all times. I truly regretted that I had not found Dr. Martinez before and now I have a great vet that I can rely on. Best vet for your bunnies! He is good for dogs and cats too!

We've been seeing Dr. Martinez and his staff since they opened their new location in Steveston. I can only agree with everyone here. Is a very caring vet. Our cat nearly died and he took such great care of him, staying with him at the clinic overnight, and charging us considerably little for it all. The only thing I wish is that he wouldn't promote crappy food and rule out raw food for our dog and cat. But that's the industry I guess.

I just wanted to rave about Dr. Martinez. We just had an issue with our bunny and she had stopped eating. Dr Martinez is incredible!!! After nightmare vets, Dr Martinez was recommended by a bunny rescue. I will forever be thankful as he is solely responsible for saving my bunny that had severe head tilt. He has also performed difficult dental work on my other bunny with great results. With elderly bunnies, I tend to see him on a regular basis. I have been seeing him for quite some time now, before he started up in Richmond and travel over an hour just to see him. He is consistently the very best vet, ever!

I've been unfortunate enough to deal with some bad vets - Dr. Martinez restored my faith. I truly regret not finding him earlier. This is a vet that's not only knowledgeable and reasonable financially, but someone who also truly cares, goes out of his way, is compassionate, holistic, kind, honest, makes the animal very comfortable, great at explaining things and thorough, and goes way beyond...An example of what a vet should really be like. His clinic also does grooming, dentistry (even sans anesthesia), holistic care, surgery, acupuncture, herbal...even house calls. I cannot recommend him more highly - and that's the first vet I've said this of.
