12/17/13   1     5     1     1   I brought my German Shepherd, Prima, to the Veterinary Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Group (VOSM) when her right hind leg stopped supporting her. I initially opted for the "conservative" treatment and left with some prescriptions. When my dog did not respond well to some of the medications, I contacted Dr. Gallagher and his assistant, Betty Helms, via email and phone requesting an estimate for surgery (which was one of the options mentioned at the initial visit) and recommendations for alternative medications. I was told they would get back to me. However, despite my sending another email, they never responded to my request. In the meantime, Prima's condition was deteriorating. Ultimately, she needed to be euthanized to put her out of her suffering. Had the doctor responded as promised, she might well be still alive. RID: 48820
Click to report rating    4/13/12   5     5     5     5   Dr. Canapp @ VOSM. First this place is every bit as well equipped at any hospital and is designed for dogs! From the waiting room with a cushion floor to individual booths large enough for your pal and you to wait. Dr. Canapp performed surgery in a state of the art operating room. The rehab department rivals any human facility with underwater treadmills, pool, agility room, massage therapy, ultra sound therapy and chiropractics too! Exam rooms are orthopedic beds on the floor and the staff go to them rather then a steel table that scares the**** out of most animals. Lets see: Dietary Department Surgical Coordinator Surgical Nurse Recovery Nurse Ward Nurse Vet Techs galore I would not recommend one Dr. over another as each specialize in a particular discipline, but when you are referred you will be placed with the Vet that can meet your needs. His wife is in charge of Rehab and is over the top working in like I said a very well equipped therapy departm RID: 33509
Click to report rating    3/15/10   5     5     5     5   Our 10 yr old yellow lab has had 5 surgeries over the past year, including 2 TPLO cruciate ligament repairs and a herniated disk repair. After nearly a yr, she is now fully healed and back to being a lab. We have Dr. Sherman Canapp and his team at the Veterinary Orthopedic Sports Medicine Group (http://www.vosm.com) to thank for guiding us and our dog through multiple rehab sessions. We continue to take her for rehab -- on an underwater treadmill! Each session is like a dose of rejuvenation medicine for us. She comes out feeling great. Dr. Canapp is one of the top experts on orthopedic surgery and rehab for dogs. And his wife and partner, Debra, also a veterinarian, is 1 of the best physical rehab specialists. Their facilities are top notch, state-of-the-art, with the best equipment and a caring, knowledgeable and professional staff to match. So, if your dogs have any orthopedic problems, I can highly recommend them. They all love animals and their work -- it truly shows. RID: 17059
