Was initially impressed with the clinic but it has deteriorated. The staff are rude since covid began. Very disorganized. I was quoted a price on the phone for spaying my dog. When I showed up the morning of the spay they wanted to charged 100$ more. When I discussed with Claire the vet she acted very non unconcerned and basically acted like I was lying. So now she has lost business for the lifetime of our two dogs for “misquoting” the price. If you decide to use the clinic get your quotes in writing

Not too long ago I came in to drop my dog off for surgery. I honestly just wanted to turn around and not have him neutered what I witnessed. An Asian girl was reefing and dragging a big white dog around the lobby, while the dog was thrashing around and hitting its head off things. She stopped for a moment, and I over heard a girl say it’s having a panic attack while looking worried and not happy with how the Asian girl was handling it. Then the Asian continues choking and dragging this dog out the door. I over heard someone say this girl is like that all the time. I was worried about leaving my dog there. I am not going back I will also be reporting them.

A new girl who just started a few months ago comes in to discuss medications with me and didn't really know what she was talking about, and gave me the wrong information about the drug. Fortunately for me the receptionist knew what she was talking about and informed me correctly. I found out this new girl has NO prior experience in the veterinary profession, she's not even in college for vet related education, and was hired on as a tech. I expect anyone who works there that interacts with my pet and I knows what they're doing and talking about. I think it's inexcusable that Rockwood Vet is allowing inexperienced people to handle my animals and others. They allow them to monitor surgeries! She told me she was monitoring the whole surgery of my animal! No way! She was also rude to me on how she was explaining things to me... treated me like I don 't know anything... I don't think I want to go back as I don't trust personal who aren't trained to handle my pet. Sorry Rockwood Vet

I’ve been going here for awhile, starting to regret that. At all costs I will not see Dr. Roberts. I don’t know how he is a vet, he is clearly super uncomfortable around my dog. It’s like he thinks she’s going to bite him or something so her examinations are awkward and brief and involve me “restraining” her head. She has never done anything to him to make him believe she would do something aggressive. Anyways I brought my other dog in with a cold. I was given antihistamines because the first “guess” was allergies. So I pay for that then two days later she has not improved at all so I take her back in. The Dr. Does the same five second physical exam then says he’s now sure she has a nasal infection so he gives her a shot (lies to me about how much it was going to cost) and charged me another examination fee. I couldn’t believe it, what a scam. He also prescribed her a human dose of hydrocodone, she’s 15 lbs. Not impressed at all.

Without going into too much detail, an awful experience. Was lied to about costs, charged multiple times for what was supposed to be a one time fee. My pet was caged for weeks needlessly and held for ransom. Ungh! Never again!

Staff: had a terrible experience with my cat. He is not aggressive or bothered by physicals BUT he was way over-restrained regardless now he hates physicals! Facilities: exam room was okay, but reception was messy and dirty when I was there. Punctuality: waited for 20min to go into an exam room while my cat was stressed out by the dogs in reception, then was 'stalled' by a vet assistant who did a 'physical' before the vet finally came in man-handling my cat for ANOTHER physical. Monetary Value: had better, had worse.

My entire extended family has been taking their pets to this vet for over 20 years. When I first got my two dogs I went to other vets in Guelph as I didn't want to drive in. Honestly not one of them is even close to the quality of care given by the rockwood vet team. Dr Roberts and Dr Clair have performed serious operations on my two dogs and I could not have been happier with the job they did or the price I paid. I trust no one with the wellbeing of my family as I do with these people.

They keep deleting my post, I thought this forum was to warn people. Dr Manes is ok but Dr. Roberts is a joke. My 7 yr old Lab and best friend had ate 3 small pebbles. He had slight stomach ache but still well and still wagging his tail. Regrettably, I let Dr. Roberts operate, he said he wanted to "help" my dog.Well the dog never came out of it normal, he layed there for about a day before he died. He died on the floor with everyone rushing around him not even paying attention to the fact that he was dying. Who knows why he died? I never got an answer. I do know they tried to get 2600.00 off me. I basically laughed, he killed my dog for no reason. This clinic has had their share of negligent cases over and over. Go to a different vet if you don't want to lose your pet.

My dog got hit by a car at6:30 pm most vets arnt open that late they took my poor dog in right away and did the best that they could do for him, they were very nice and understanding with me and my boyfriend. They did what they could to keep me my dog and my boyfriend comforted before they put him to rest. Thanks again the staff at the rockwood veterinary clinic

I have beent taking my 2 siamese cats to Dr. Roberts for the past 7 years. He is amazing. Dr. Claire is also amazing. Always willing to help you out any way that they can.

Dr. Roberts has been an amazing vet for our dog who suffers seasonal allergies. He is always attentive and takes his time when we are in for vet visits. It is nice to know that you can ask him questions and know he is listening to your concerns. The ladies at the front desk along with the techs are always so helpful and nice. It means a lot. Thank you.

I cannot believe that they are still open. The staff are horrible! I brought my cat in for a teeth cleaning and she was sent home with the fluid thing in her leg still I had to take her to a vet close by and they removed it for me. I got charged more then what I was told I had to pay and it wasn't explained to me why. They never followed up with me, her mouth didn't seem to heal. I had to take her to the emerg vet and she had to be started on medication for infection. AND then to find out that a tooth that should have been removed was still there. My poor cat went to another clinic and the surgery was done. Oh and they called me the next day AND did a free recheck and guess what - there were no concerns!

I have been taken my animals there for years, I thought Claire, and Dr, Roberts was wonderful,I found both to be very professional and compassionate, The only issue I had was with one of the techs when my dog had to get her names trim and my dog was squealing and crying she had 3 bleed nails on each paw, I had to tell her finally to just stop it , never again did she get a trim there, But the other staff was great !!

Rockwood vet clinic is my first vet. I've been attending for a cat and a dog and thus far I've only had great experiences. I am impressed with both Dr Clare and Dr Roberts. Oh, and not to mention the vet techs are helpful and friendly too! I brought my kitty in after a serious injury. The techs and vet all pitched in to help him pull through. However the injuries sadly were too much for him and he didn't make it. Unlike the naysayers above, I'm not blaming the vet for his loss; instead I'd like to point out how supportive, professional and caring the staff were. They kept me informed, explained things thoroughly and allowed me to make the ultimate decision. I will always recommend the Rockwood Vet. Give them a try :)

I have used this vet clinic for many years and have nothing but positive things to say. Dr Clare and her staff are absolutel dedicated to providing excellent health care for my fur babies. I can not and would not ever go anywhere eles.Many years ago I had a beautiful collie who broke her leg. Claretook amazing care of her and Peggy went out of her way to reassure constantly that everything was going well.(My dog had to stay over night) Sadly that dog has sincer passed on, I do however have another dog and 2 cats. Dr Clare is the only vet I could honestly recommend to anyone.

I have used this vet since I got my First Dog Smokey (15 years young and still going) Claire is amazing! and is always helpful and attentative. I would recommend HER for anyones needs. However having a run in with dr.Roberts regarding my one dogs mouth and other dogs eyes, he is a useless tool. out to make $$$ and nothing more. He was unhelpful, rude, and charges WAY more then what Claire ever has. He has no compation and no emotion and I would NOT recommened Him for ANY animal care, not even a cockroach deserves the care he provides. Clarie and the rest of the staff are amazing :) When booking an appointment just make sure CLAIRE is the vet your pet will see and all will be fine.

I have known Clare for many years (20!).I have been part of her rescue volunteers for domestic and wildlife. Awesome job Clare! She is an empathetic person and LOVES animals period. She has never lost that genuine love for any critter. Excellant diagnostician and reasonable fees. And by the way THEY have NOT lost their license many times. I do love people who spead slander....get your facts straight. I have and always will choose Rockwood Vet for my animals. It's about trust. I know my pets will get the best from staff and vets. Yes you wait sometimes but you are her priority when it's your turn. And Clare, you need more room...

Brought my cat in for surgery, he had 2 tumors on his paw/leg. They removed 1 tumor but left the other one. When I picked him up they wanted to remove the wrapping from his paw to look at it before releasing him. Then they couldn't get the bandages back on him and sent him home as is. He started bleeding everywhere. Had to bandage him up ourselves. A few days later the stitches came open and I had to bring him back. I told them to make sure he was bandaged this time before sending him home. They tried to tell me last time they didn't remove the wrap but my cat did?? No, they told me the first time THEY removed it. The lab gave a diagnostic that he had cancer. When I went back in, they showed me the report and didn't give any recommendations or other options, just basically heres what it is. I asked for a copy of the lab report (that I paid for) and they were trying to tell me there not sure if they can?? Got it later to see it was a copy from 2006 and my other cats report.

We come from Hamilton, to visit with these amazing veterinarian's. I have taken my dog to other facility's in Hamilton and the experiences have not been good, the just treat my dog like she is another pay check coming in. Whereas in Rockwood she is treat like family Dr. Claire calls herseld Dakota's Auntie, my dog loves it and is so comfortable with all the friendly staff, she literally gets excited when we pull into the driveway. Whereas at the other facily's we have tried she would fight us tooth and nail about going into the buildings, she would pee and**** on there floors, but not at Rockwood, they make her feel so welcomes, they know her by name, no vet i have taken my dog too calls her by name or even remembers who she is when we arrive, the staff at rockwood always knows her by name, always takes to her. Our dog and my husband and I are treated like family, Rockwood is wonderful and i would recommend them to anyone.

I drive from Hamilton to meet with Dr. Gerard Roberts because he has shown nothing but concern for my aging pets (But with some respect for my wallet.) One dog had two major surgeries and recovered without a hitch. The staff are always accomodating and my dogs and cat actually ENJOY going there. (My dog barged right in and went looking for a tech to love him up when he came for his second surgery LOL) I trust Rockwood to be empathetic but practical in their recommendations for my pets.

We're three for three with these folks. Three pets treated and all three died shortly thereafter. Dr. Clare is an excellent vet who's in for the right reasons, but her so called business partner Gerard Roberts is completely useless . He thinks only of the money he can squeeze out of you; even before he's attempted emergency treatment on our pet. It was a routine procedure but he died on the table. What a complete botchup! Their RVT's are useless except Peggy.If Clare were ever to set up her own practice, I'd take pets to see her, but as long as Roberts is there, I will NEVER go to Rockwood again. They lose files, radiographs, the techs(exept Peggy, who's a sweetheart and excellent tech) are rude. Dr. Robert wouldn't even talk to us and we had questions after our dog's surgery. It was moot, as the dog was dead two days later. Nicely done Gerard! The CVO should be contacted about him; not Dr. Clare who is an excellent, skilled vet. Unfortunately, she got saddled with a real dud of a vet.

my dog had an x-ray per dr.Roberts suggestion, He found nothing wrong with her other than gas in her stomach. He was aware that she recently had a change in food but wanted the expensive test done anyways ($270) two weeks later he put my dog down. This has been very traumatic and I would not recommend this vet!!!

We've been going to Rockwood Vet Clinic for years and wouldn't consider changing. Claire and Dr. Roberts provide excellent care for our cats, dogs and even for an opossum that was hit by a car - the opossum while under care had babies! The staff works hard. They are caring, kind and sensitive particularly Peggy!

This was my first pet/vet, and I was impressed. We adopted our first kitty here. Staff seemed friendly and were very patient with my cat, who gets incredibly vicious at the vet. Prices were reasonable (I think), and they didn't charge for some tests - e.g. fecal tests were not charged if results showed nothing. Adoption policy was also great - price of spay/neuter and first vaccinations are covered in the low adoption cost (~$60) if you do NOT have your cat declawed, and if opting for declawing, you must pay full costs for all procedures. I'm sad to have left Guelph, as now I'll be needing to find a new vet. That said, when we took our cat in for a small problem (liquidy ****), they weren't able to really diagnose the cause (high-fat kitten food). Based on their advice, and an internet search, we were able to figure it out, but it would have been nice if the initial advice had not been to 'feed high-fat kitten food for 1 yr'.

I travel 170kms just to continue to use Rockwood. Their pricing is more than fair and the staff is very one on one. They also have onsite adoption for kittens. Claire is wonderful.

I have worked in the animal profession and with veterinarians for years. She is the best vet I have had the privilege of knowing. You may have to wait a little longer in the waiting room but once it is your turn, you are never rushed. On more than one occasion I have had to use Claire(Dr. Maine) for after hour emergencies. She is honest, caring, and goes beyond the call of duty in these situations (and the price is fair).

I have been through many vets and many times I have left a vet as I have felt like a bank account ready for withdrawal, not at Rockwood, the care provided to my pets is the best and its not about the bottom dollar its the welfare of the pet first and foremost. I will not go anywhere else.

I have been going to this vet for four years and I have absolutely never, EVER had a problem. The care is phenomenal, the vets are fantastic, and the rest of the staff all genuinely care for animals. Money is not their first priority - your pet is. I live in Toronto now and still drive back there for my pets.
