Click to report rating    12/28/11   1     2     4     1   VCA North Animal Hospital is very expensive and the staff is always different. There are always vets leaving and new ones replacing them. Each vet assigns cost to the visit and depending on which vet you see it is different. It is very frustrating there. The girls that sit in the front are not helpful and talk about the clients while other clients are sitting in the waiting room. There is no continuity for my dogs and everytime I step foot into the facility I can't leave without spending 60-200 dollars. There is no professionalism. RID: 30105
Click to report rating    7/6/09   2     2     2     1   The reception staff is great. The people dealing with the animals are very nice. The veterinary care is HORRIBLE! I brought an old dog in with a skin tumor. I repeated told them I DID NOT want the surgery if he would not survive. I paid for additional test to make sure he was healthy enough for the surgery. The vet kept him under anesthesia so long that he succumbed to the effects of the anesthesia 2 days later. I paid over one thousand dollars!! And my dear dog died - and I had to pay more to have him cremated. They DID NOT follow my directives that he NOT have the surgery if he would not survive. The vet kept him under anesthesia for OVER AN HOUR! On a 12 year old dog. He did not have to die! Of course they tell me I "knew" that surgery was risky - and conveniently forgot that I repeatedly told them NOT to do it if he could not survive. I would say this is the place to go if you want your pet to DIE~! RID: 13401
Click to report rating    5/21/07   4     4     3     2   I have been using VCA Lake Shore for years and have taken four dogs there. In the past, I found their services to be from fair to very good. With my last pet, an old dog, their services were very caring, prompt and helpful, making room for us in emergencies. However, with the latest two dogs, I feel that the level of care and interest in my pets has dropped. The exam seems cursory, the vet (specifically Dr. Hoyle) does not seem to care about the pet, or listen to the client. VCA is more expensive than other vet clinics and I continued to use them because for the most part the vets seemed knowledgeable and they were close and convenient, however, there are just too many other vets in Chicago to patronize a clinic that seems to be in the "business" of veterinary medicine and not in it for the love of animals. Click to report rating    1/11/07   5     5     5     5   Some owners may not like chains, but this location's service (especially Dr. Diaz) is superb. They have squeezed us in at the last minute in emergencies, and I always feel like they genuinely care about my dog and cats. They have even called to check up on a sick pet after treatment, and they do their best to keep costs down in expensive emergency situations. It's great to find a doctor I trust! RID: 1908
